The Bayou
You might be surprised at how many unique get away places are not that far from Houston. We have a small ranch with some cows down along the gulf coast and not far from there is a large national wildlife preserve. It is called the Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge. One of my goals is to go boating when the thousands of sand hill cranes are along the coast. In fact, we have flocks of cranes singing every day as they fly over our pasture between their roost and their feeding in the local rice fields. This day, Shell and I when down to the refuge and not a soul was there. Strange that other people have not realized that the way to not get cabin fever is to find a remote place to go. It was completely empty, except for a ton of wild life that was boldly moving around the pavilion and buildings. Here a large (14 foot ish) alligator sneaked up behind us!
